History & Gardens

The current greenery was largely established in the 19th century, with the first mention of planted trees from 1841.
After the Hussite Wars, the area transformed from forests into vineyards, gardens, and fields.
Notable landscaping occurred after the completion of the Slavín tomb in 1893 and the former princely and royal castle site in 1927–28.
The gardens are adorned with sculpture groups by Josef Václav Myslbek, added in 1948 and 1977.
Note that Zahrada Nového děkanství and Zahrada Nového probošství are private territories.
