These free-roaming horses, an iconic symbol of the American West, were once destined to disappear but now roam freely along the Salt River.

Wild horses roam freely along the Salt River in Tonto National Forest, Mesa, Arizona. These feral horses, descendants of those introduced by the Spanish, have been present since before 1902. Home to hundreds of free-roaming wild horses, they are managed by a non-profit group.
