Rabenštejn
Explore the dramatic ruins of Rabenštejn Castle, a former Gothic watchtower offering nearly 200 rock climbing routes and stunning panoramic views in the Hrubý Jeseník mountains.

📜 Rabenštejn Castle, a former Gothic watchtower and popular rock climbing area, stands dramatically in the foothills of the Hrubý Jeseník mountains.
🔍 Once the highest-situated castle in Moravia, it offers a unique blend of historical exploration and outdoor adventure.

Why Go

🧗‍♀️ Rock Climbing: Discover nearly 200 routes on firm, richly structured rock, with difficulties from 3 to 10- UIAA, secured with rings, bolts, and borháks.
🏰 Castle Ruins: Explore the remains of a 13th-century Gothic castle, accessible via ladders, providing beautiful panoramic views of Hrubý Jeseník and Haná.
🌲 Nature Scenery: Enjoy beautiful natural landscapes ideal for hiking around the castle ruins and climbing areas.
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Family-Friendly: Some routes on Přední skály are suitable for beginners and families (3, 4, 5 UIAA).
✈️ Nearby Attractions: Visit the nearby Pustý zámek (Veisenštejn), forming an unusual "double-castle" complex, with Rabenštejn serving as its observatory.

Why Avoid

⚠️ Challenging Climbing: Many routes, especially on Zadní skály, are more difficult (VI and VII UIAA), requiring experience.
🌿 Mossy Routes: Rabenštejn's climbing routes are now heavily overgrown with moss, making them difficult to climb without extensive cleaning; consider Ludvíkov for better conditions.
🚫 Pietary Site: A pietary place on Přední skály requires visitors to maintain order and respect.
🚶‍♀️ Off-Trail Access: Access to Rabenštejn from Pustý zámek might involve walking off marked trails through the forest, and the path to the rock summit is challenging.

Cost

💰 Admission: Entry to the castle ruins is free.
🅿️ Parking: Parking is available and free of charge.

Facilities

🍽️ Food and Dining: Hospoda U Radka is located at the crossroads in Železná, near the parking area.
🏕️ Accommodation: Horská chata Rabštejn (mountain hut) is located southwest of the Přední skály climbing area.

Getting There

🚗 Driving: Park in Vrbno pod Pradědem (Železná part of the village), e.g., at the Hájenka tourist shelter, or by the forest road (free parking).
