📜 Constructed between 1932 and 1938, the Pastviny Dam on the Divoká Orlice river is a significant engineering feat in the Orlické hory region. This last masonry dam built in the Czech Republic serves for flood protection, electricity generation, and as a bustling hub for recreation and water activities. It was once the largest pumped-storage power plant in former Czechoslovakia.
⚙️ Explore a historic dam with a hydro power plant producing emission-free energy since 1938, covering the consumption of over 2,000 households in East Bohemia. It features a peak-load hydroelectric power plant with a 3 MW Francis turbine and the Pastviny II balancing reservoir downstream with a 217 kW Kaplan turbine. 🏊♀️ Enjoy excellent conditions for swimming, water skiing, and diving in its deep, clear waters. 🎣 Experience sport fishing, especially during quieter morning or evening hours. 🚣♀️ Rent boats, pedal boats with slides, or electric boats for a fun day on the 110-hectare reservoir. 🚶♀️ Discover numerous cycling and hiking trails, including a 15 km route around the lake, or take the "Pastviňáček" tourist train. Explore the scenic shores dotted with cottages and campsites. 🎢 Enjoy the newly built bobsled track nearby. 🌳 Visit nearby attractions like Zemská brána, Studenecké skály for climbing, or the Bouda artillery fortress museum. ⛷️ In winter, enjoy a ski lift in Pastviny village and groomed cross-country trails.
⚠️ Stony access to the water drops sharply, which might be challenging for some visitors. 🎣 Daytime activity can be high, making fishing more productive in the mornings or evenings. 🚶♀️ The 15 km walk around the lake takes over 4 hours, which might be long for some.
♿ The dam area is accessible for strollers and wheelchairs.
