Osceola's Grave
The final resting place of the Seminole Indian chief who fought against government occupation in Florida.

📜 Final resting place of Osceola, a Seminole Indian chief, known for fighting against federal occupation during the Second Seminole War. Captured in 1837, he died at Fort Moultrie on Sullivan's Island, South Carolina, where he is buried. Though of mixed heritage, Osceola was raised as a Creek Indian and became an influential leader of the Seminole tribe. After his death, the attending Army doctor removed his head for study, and a "death mask" cast still resides in the Smithsonian Institution. His body was re-buried in 1967 after a claim of his remains being dug up. The grave was also used as a landmark in Byron Preiss's armchair treasure hunt book, "The Secret".🔍 Located at Fort Moultrie on Sullivan's Island, South Carolina. # Why Go ✊ Learn about Native American history 📍 Visit a significant historical landmark 🌳 Explore Fort Moultrie grounds # Tips 🅿️ GPS address: 1214 Middle Street, Sullivan's Island, South Carolina. ⛴️ Fort Sumter (nearby) requires ferry access. 💡 Fort Moultrie houses administrative offices of Fort Sumter National Monument.
