The cityโ€™s oldest gateway to the galaxy, located at the entrance to the Royal Botanical Gardens.

๐Ÿ“œ Historic observatory located on a hill adjacent to the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria, operational since 1863. ๐Ÿ” Decommissioned from official government work in 1945, it continues to function as an astronomical observatory and is open to the public. It houses several buildings including the main observatory structure, magnet house, photoheliograph house, and astrograph house. Notable instruments include an 8-inch refracting telescope and a 4-inch Photoheliograph. A project is underway to restore the Great Melbourne Telescope to its original home.
