Manzushir Monastery
A hike outside of the town of Zuun Mod will take visitors to a monastery complex steeped in Mongolian history.

๐Ÿ“œ Historic Buddhist monastery, established in 1700s.
๐Ÿ” Located 45 km by road from Ulaanbaatar, near Zuun Mod town.
Initially built for Manzushir, a Bodhisat of wisdom. It housed 20 temples and 350 monks before its destruction during the 1937 communist purge. Today, visitors can see the ruined shell of the main temple and a restored temple housing a museum. The museum tells the sad story of the ruined temple but also provides hope. Indestructible objects include a two-tonne bronze cauldron and Buddhist rock paintings. The cauldron was designed to cook for 1000 monks. The area is also a starting point for a hike to Bogd Khan Mountainโ€™s peak Tsetseegun (2256 m).
