📜 The Lužické hory (Lusatian Mountains) is a significant climbing area in the Czech Republic, primarily known for its sandstone rock formations. It offers a wide range of climbing routes, from easy beginner-friendly paths to challenging advanced climbs.
🔍 Many of the routes, especially at Horní skály (Obrvégry), were first ascended over a century ago, with some dating back to 1904.
☀️ The area is renowned for traditional sandstone climbing, with Horní skály (Obrvégry) being highly recommended for beginners due to its "friendly" and firm rock.
🧗♀️ Routes range from easy (III) to very difficult (IX and X) on the Unified Sandstone Classification scale, including traditional, sport, bouldering, drytooling, and ice climbing.
👨👩👧👦 Some rock formations are explicitly marked as suitable for visits with children.
✈️ Nearby attractions include Krkavčí skály, the viewpoint Popova skála, and the natural monument Sloní kameny.
🚫 The use of magnesium is forbidden in the Jizerské and Lužické hory climbing areas.
🚶♀️ The area can be quite crowded on summer weekends, so it's advisable to avoid these times.
🅿️ Parking: Free parking is available at the upper end of Dolní Světlá for access to Falkenstein and Sokolík.
🏕️ Accommodation options include the Horolezecká chata (Climber's Hut) at Horní Sedlo (approx. 20 places, contact numbers: 777 002 170 or 777 938 590). It's also possible to bivouac directly under Cvičná věž. Nearby towns like Jablonné v Podještědí, Hrádek nad Nisou, Rynoltice, and Polesí offer pensions, hotels, and pubs.
🚗 To Horní skály: From Rynoltice, turn north onto road 13 towards Horní Sedlo and Hrádek nad Nisou. Parking is approximately 3 km down the road, on the left, just before entering the village.
🚗 To Falkenstein/Sokolík: From the free parking at the upper end of Dolní Světlá, follow the green marked path to the border barrier, then 300 meters left along the path to the base of the towers.
🤝 The climbing rules for Jizerské and Lužické hory are administered by Radek Černický. Online guides are available via horosvaz (Czech Mountaineering Association) or the "Skály ČR" app by ČHS (for Android/iOS). A printed guide for Lužické hory was previously published by Klub horolezců Hrádek.
