🏞️ The Ponds

💧 The reserve comprises five main ponds: Nesyt (the largest in Moravia, 296-325 ha), Hlohovecký (94 ha), Prostřední (48 ha), Mlýnský (98 ha), and Zámecký (28 ha, with many islets).
📍 Nesyt, Hlohovecký, Prostřední, and Mlýnský are located between Sedlec and Lednice, while Zámecký Pond is part of the Lednice Castle Park.

💧 Management & Ecology

📜 Historically, the ponds were created for fish farming. Today, management includes "letnění" (seasonal draining) to aerate mud, allow coastal vegetation to rest, and promote the growth of rare plants and provide habitat for specific bird species.
🌿 This practice, which involves lowering the water level by about a meter to expose roughly half the pond area, helps restore biodiversity.
⚠️ The area faces challenges from tourism and nutrient runoff from surrounding lands, though efforts are being made to improve the pond conditions.

Why Avoid

⚠️ Can be a very busy and crowded area, especially around Zámecký Pond, due to high tourist traffic and cycling routes.
