Landek is a National Nature Monument (NPP Landek) declared in 1966 and expanded to 85.53 hectares in 1989.
The watchtower, built in 1998, stands on the site of a former castle, likely founded by Přemysl Otakar II after 1253.
It's historically crucial as the first site in the Ostrava region where systematic coal mining began.
The area is a significant archaeological site, revealing remains of a mammoth hunter settlement, including the famous Petřkovice Venus figurine, and evidence of early coal use.
Open year-round for visitors.
Absolutely free to enter and explore!
The watchtower is reached by a marked hiking trail, typically green markers, starting from the bridge over the Odra near the bus stop.
It's about a 2-kilometer walk from the tourist signpost by the road, involving 40 sleeper steps and forest paths.
The path passes the turn-off to the mining museum and leads to the Landek – potrubí crossroads, then to Landek – U Hradiska.
It's situated on the southern slope of Landek hill, above the Odra river, before its confluence with the Ostravice River.
