Originally established as a Tiergarten (zoo) in 1204 by Duke Ludwig the Kelheimer, it served this purpose until the 18th century.
Later, it transformed into a cultural operation, hosting a state fur school and silkworm breeding.
In 1800, it became university property before being acquired by the city in 1836 and opened to the public in 1837.
The Hof- und Herzoggarten is located at Serpentinenweg, 84036 Landshut.
