The Hof- und Herzoggarten is a 33-hectare oasis on the edge of Landshut's densely built-up city center, featuring an eight-kilometer network of paths and offering fabulous views over the city. Visitors can enjoy beautiful old trees, colorful flower beds, a herb garden, and several animal enclosures with approximately 200 animals.

Originally established as a Tiergarten (zoo) in 1204 by Duke Ludwig the Kelheimer, it served this purpose until the 18th century.
Later, it transformed into a cultural operation, hosting a state fur school and silkworm breeding.
In 1800, it became university property before being acquired by the city in 1836 and opened to the public in 1837.
