Hesperus Mountain
Dibé Ntsaa
Mountain peak
This jet-infused peak marks the traditional northern boundary of the Navajo nation.

📜 Highest peak of the La Plata Range in southwest Colorado. Sacred to the Navajo people, who call it Dibé Ntsaa.

Why Go

⛰️ Important Navajo sacred mountain, part of the four sacred peaks.
✨ Distinctive layered surface and triangular shape.
👀 Excellent views from Sharkstooth trail and Park Point Lookout in Mesa Verde National Park.

Why Avoid

⚠️ Very remote and difficult to climb.
🚗 Route to Sharkstooth Trailhead requires high clearance and four-wheel drive.
🚫 No trail to the summit, requiring a direct approach over loose scree; delicate Class 2-3 climb.

Tips

⛑️ A helmet is recommended for climbing.
🤝 Bring a friend and inform someone of your route for safety.
🚶 The AllTrails suggested 'Black Streak' route is exhausting but safer than the ridgeline scree.
