📜 Chlupáčovo muzeum historie Země is a university museum, developed from the original collections of the Institute of Geology and Paleontology, Faculty of Science, Charles University. It primarily serves teaching and research in historical geology, stratigraphy, paleontology, and related fields, but is also open to the public. 🔍 Named after Professor Ivo Chlupáč, a prominent geologist, the museum's collections have been gathered since the 19th century and it officially opened on December 3, 2008.
☀️ Explore extensive fossil collections spanning Earth's history from the Paleozoic to the Quaternary, including unique Ediacaran, Cambrian, Devonian, Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous fauna. 🦖 Marvel at the central exhibit: an 8-meter replica of a Carnotaurus sastrei skeleton, the first permanently exhibited dinosaur skeleton in the Czech Republic. 🦕 Discover valuable exhibits such as Czech fossils from Barrandien and the Cretaceous period, the oldest fossils dating back 570 million years, and the Chengjiang fauna with exceptionally preserved soft body parts. 🖼️ Enjoy modern reconstructions and 3D models that complement the exhibits, along with prehistoric-themed paintings by Petr Modlitba. 👨👩👧👦 The museum is wheelchair accessible from Votočkova street and, while primarily for university students, is designed to be understandable for high school students and the general public.
⚠️ Public access is limited to Wednesdays only and the museum is closed during university holidays, public holidays, and from December 15 to January 2. 🚫 Groups exceeding 5 people must announce their visit in advance via phone or email to coordinate with pre-booked excursions. 🗣️ Individual visits do not include expert guide commentary; guided tours are available only for pre-booked groups.
