📜 Arboretum Vysoké Chvojno is a historic botanical garden located near the village of Vysoké Chvojno, approximately 15 km northeast of Pardubice and 4 km north of Holice. It was established as an English-style park in the late 19th century.
🔍 The arboretum's history is linked to the original intention of Markgraf Alexander Pallaviczini to build a castle and a castle park after 1884; only the park was realized.
🌳 Diverse Plant Collection: Explore a rich collection of 62 conifer and 152 deciduous tree and shrub species from the Northern Hemisphere.
🌲 Rare Species: Discover unique and rare trees such as the convergent thuja, Canadian juniper, Jeffrey pine, Swedish whitebeam, common whitebeam, tulip tree, and predominant red-leaved beeches.
🐾 Nearby Zoo: Observe local wildlife like fallow deer, roe deer, and wild boar at the adjacent small zoo.
🚶♀️ English-Style Park: Wander through a beautifully designed park laid out in the English style by forester Adolf Laufke Sandtner between 1886 and 1889.
🏞️ Adjacent Nature Reserve: The arboretum adjoins the "U parku" nature reserve, also known as "Prachovská stráň," a remnant of a mixed deciduous forest with trees over 170 years old.
